For decades, Jackson's Catfish Corner has been more than a restaurant. It has been a gathering place where
families celebrate milestones, neighbors connect, and visitors experience an important part of Seattle's
Black history and culture. The Jackson family has built a legacy rooted in community, entrepreneurship,
hospitality, and resilience. The business has served generations of Seattle residents while helping preserve
the cultural identity of the Central District during a period of tremendous change.
As Seattle continues to grow and redevelop, it is essential that long-standing Black-owned businesses are
not displaced. These businesses represent history, economic opportunity, and cultural heritage that cannot
be replaced once they are gone.
We ask city leaders and all parties involved to:
Preserve Jackson's Catfish Corner at 1800 Yesler Way.
Work collaboratively with the owners to identify solutions that allow the restaurant to remain in its
current location.
Recognize Jackson's Catfish Corner as an important cultural and economic asset to Seattle.
Support policies and partnerships that protect legacy Black-owned businesses from displacement.
Demonstrate Seattle's commitment to preserving the history, diversity, and character of its
neighborhoods.
