Why this petition matters

Started by Sara Friske

The Alberta Government has decided to end the Insulin Pump Therapy Program as of August 2022. This end will impact all type 1 diabetics who utilize an Insulin pump through this program, from children to adults. Without the program, insurance companies will be the only way to afford the Insulin Pump and supplies for all. With this comes concerns for those without insurance plans, or lower income having more co pays to be able to afford their necessary medical supplies to live a better quality of life. Insulin Pump supplies cost about $300 per month, depending on your company Pump supplier and Insulin pumps themselves are about $5000. This is not a cost that Albertans should have to worry about when a solution was in place. This will force a lot of type 1 diabetics to have to pay more for their supplies or go back to 5+ injections per day. As a type 1 diabetic on the Insulin Pump program this news is worrisome and causing fear in the community. We need our government to understand the impact this will have!
