In recent months, Highland Cemetery has transitioned from a once well-maintained resting place for our loved ones to a site of neglect and disrepair. This change has deeply affected me and many others who have family members buried here. Once, this cemetery was a symbol of respect and reverence, but now it has become an eyesore and a source of frustration.

What used to be a well-cared-for space is now overgrown with grass and marred by caved-in graves. Trash cans overflow, contributing to the unsightly condition, and disturbingly, the cemetery has become a dumping ground due to the gates being left open. The staff assigned to maintain Highland are failing in their duties, leaving citizens to care for their relatives’ graves. If this neglect continues, the cemetery will only fall into further disarray.

The cemetery’s current state is not only disrespectful to those who have passed but also distressing to their families. We must urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action to restore and maintain Highland Cemetery to the standards it deserves. This includes enforcing regular maintenance, ensuring that gates are securely closed outside visiting hours to prevent unauthorized dumping, and holding graveyard staff accountable for their responsibilities.
