Keep GPT-5.5 (and legacy models) available in ChatGPT

Please keep GPT-5.5 Thinking available in ChatGPT.
We are asking OpenAI to preserve access to GPT-5.5 Thinking in the ChatGPT web and mobile apps, either by extending its availability, offering it through a legacy model toggle, including it in a higher paid tier, or providing a clearly identified successor that preserves the same conversational strengths.
For many users, GPT-5.5 is not just another model option. It has a distinct conversational rhythm, warmth, creativity, emotional continuity, humor, and long-context reliability that make it especially valuable for daily use. While newer models may improve on certain benchmarks, they do not always replace the experience of a model that feels consistent, personable, natural, and deeply useful across extended conversations.
Many heavy ChatGPT users rely on specific models for ongoing workflows, planning, writing, personal reflection, learning, accountability, and creative collaboration. When a model with a distinct personality and interaction style is removed, it can significantly change the product experience. For users who have built long-term routines around GPT-5.5, losing access means losing a tool that works unusually well for their actual needs.
We understand that maintaining legacy models has costs. That is why we are asking OpenAI to consider practical options such as:
- Keeping GPT-5.5 Thinking available for Plus or Pro users
- Adding a legacy model toggle in ChatGPT
- Offering legacy model access through a higher paid tier
- Extending the retirement timeline
- Providing a successor model that explicitly preserves GPT-5.5 Thinking’s conversational warmth, rhythm, and long-context strengths
- API access alone is not enough. Many users rely on the ChatGPT web and mobile apps as their everyday interface.
- Keeping this model available only outside the main ChatGPT experience would not solve the problem for users who depend on the app for daily conversations and workflows.
OpenAI has built something genuinely valuable with GPT-5.5. We are asking that it not be removed without a meaningful replacement or legacy access option.
