Why this petition matters

Started by Pam Boettcher

The Gordon, WI Post Office is in great danger of closing - and potentially closing very quickly.  The third party who negotiates and handles the Lease Agreements on behalf of the postal system (and gets a cut of the lease amount) has changed the status of the lease negotiations as "inactive" -- no one at J.LL. has looked at the lease "in months" as their Lease Managers only work on and look at active arrangements.

If the Gordon Post Office closes, not only will our community be burdened by having this lack of service, many of our rural residents who rely on  Post Office Boxes exclusively (because of lack of mail service to their address) will now be faced with an average of a 20 mile round-trip drive to simply pick up their mail.   Residents in this predicament without transportation or adequate income to support the increased drive will be additionally burdened.

The Gordon Post Office also holds high historical merit.   The Gordon Post Office was established on Sept. 12, 1860, which means it has been in continual operation for over 162 years!!! Our Post Office began in Antoine Gordon's Trading Post, then moved to the McLaggan General Store, then to the Lawler-Knight General Store (later became Lynch's), and finally to today's location.   (History credit: Brian Finstad).

Please sign the petition today and share with your friends, neighbors and family.   United, Gordon CAN save our Post Office.
