The Issue

Good Hope Freewill Baptist Church has been a pillar of faith and community since its inception in 1900 in Wheatley, Arkansas.  The pioneers of our church came together in the name of Jesus Christ even before our beloved sanctuary was completed in 1911. Their unwavering dedication and unity in faith established a deep-rooted bond that has spiritually nourished both their children and the wider community.

Over the past 125 years, the fruits of our founders' labor have indeed flourished, proving that their efforts were not in vain. Our church has been a nurturing ground for countless individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and shared growth under the guidance of God’s love. Let’s be clear God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit  have always been the center of our church.

Now, the proposal to change our cherished name to the Church of God threatens to overshadow the rich legacy we've inherited. Our name is more than just a title; it symbolizes  the values, and the devoted journey of our congregation.

Changing the name disregards the historical significance and emotional connection we hold dear. It is vital to honor the intent and sacrifices of our founders by preserving the name they chose with care and purpose.

We urge the decision-makers to respect the collective voice of both present and past members by maintaining our original church name. This name signifies more than just a label; it embodies our shared history, our forebears' dreams, and our communal spirit of worship and service.

Stand with us in safeguarding the legacy of Good Hope Freewill Baptist Church. Let us preserve this treasured name for the future generations to cherish and continue our faith journey.

Please sign this petition to keep our historic church name intact.
