Last week, UF received a permit from the St. Johns River Water Management District to proceed with their terrible plan to destroy dozens of huge trees in the Surge Area of southwest UF campus, which is part of and adjacent to the Natural Area Teaching Lab (NATL).  This was perhaps the last safeguard stopping construction from beginning, but all is not lost!

With enough public pressure (including this Petition), this harmful project can be stopped or at least redesigned to keep more existing trees intact and protect the workers in that area from unnecessary heat exposure.  Luckily, next week, UF's Board of Trustees will be having their summer meeting, meaning it is a great opportunity to let your voice be heard and ask them to put a halt to the Surge Area project before irreversible damage is done.

We are asking that you email the UF Board of Trustees (ufbot@ufl.edu) before next Wednesday asking them to stop Project "MP07942 Health Center Surge #4 Flooding Issues" (which seems to have been lumped under Project "MP09630 Campus Stormwater Infrastructure Stabilization - Repairs and Maintenance").  You may also wish to speak at their June 11 meeting; if so, you will need to sign up two days in advance.  Please email us (greentreesu@gmail.com) if you are planning to do that and we can help.

Thanks for your support of workers, shade, and the environment!
