Earlier this week, our campaign to save dozens of large trees in UF's Surge Area made the local news, as WCJB ABC20 out of Gainesville, FL, aired a short segment about the recent lawsuit filed by our partners at the non-profit Friends of Natural Areas, Inc. (FONA) to stop the removal of this vital shade and natural habitat.
As reported, FONA and others filed a Petition for Administrative Hearing against the project permit earlier this month, which hopefully means a pause on the destruction of these trees while the legal process plays out. FONA is in the process of looking for potential experts (in stormwater engineering, forestry, ecology, etc.) and/or witnesses who would be willing to help the case, and if you are interested, email us at "greentreesu@gmail.com" to learn more.
Please continue to share this Petition with your community, and hopefully we can get UF to rethink this poorly-planned project and instead better consider workers and the environment. And special thanks to WCJB for the wonderful coverage!
