Keep Fredericksburg Elections Non-Partisan

Keep Fredericksburg Elections Non-Partisan
The Issue
Stop the Fredericksburg Democratic Committee's (FDC) unprecedented move to suppress and remove Ken Gantt from the ballot to create a path for Matt Rowe in the Ward 1 City Council race.
At the local level, issues are rarely ideological. Potholes, public safety, zoning decisions, water quality, and school board policy are practical concerns that affect residents regardless of political leaning. These are the issues that shape our day-to-day lives and our children's futures. Non-partisanship in local elections allows for greater collaboration, creativity, and responsiveness.
However, the Fredericksburg Democratic Committee is attempting to impose partisanship on our local elections by suppressing candidates from running and endorsing select candidates. This diminishes the spirit of cooperation and innovation that non-partisanship fosters. Local issues shouldn't be tainted with political bias, as they are everyday challenges that demand practical and inclusive solutions, not divisive political agendas.
The imposition of party politics in our local governance threatens to divert attention from real issues and polarize our community, hindering progress and obstructing dialogue. Fredericksburg needs leaders who prioritize the needs of the community over party loyalty, who are willing to work across the aisle and engage in meaningful discussions to better our city.
We, the residents of Fredericksburg, call on the Fredericksburg Democrat Committee to rescind all partisan endorsements of local non-partisan independent candidates. By doing so, we can ensure that our elections remain focused on the issues that matter most to our community. Let's stand united for a collaborative future and work together to solve the problems affecting our daily lives.
Join us in preserving the integrity of our local elections and fostering a political environment that is inclusive and responsive. Sign this petition to urge the Fredericksburg Democratic Committee to keep our elections non-partisan and prioritize the well-being of our community over political affiliations.
