Fluoride has been safely added to public water supplies for decades because it helps prevent tooth decay—a fact supported by overwhelming scientific research and trusted organizations like the CDC and the American Dental Association. It’s a simple, cost-effective way to improve dental health for everyone, regardless of income or access to care.

Recently, legislation has been introduced in the Ohio Statehouse that would ban the addition of fluoride to public water systems. This proposal is deeply concerning. Taking fluoride out of our water would put countless Ohioans—especially kids and low-income families—at greater risk for cavities and serious dental problems. It could also increase health care costs across the board.

This isn’t just a health issue—it’s a fairness issue. Fluoridated water helps level the playing field for people who don’t have easy access to dentists or dental insurance. Removing it would hurt the people who need it most.
