In our neighborhood adjacent to Thompson Middle School, we've cherished the safety measures that have been in place, ensuring the well-being of our children as they walk and bike home from school. The current no parking signs have played a critical role in keeping these young students out of harm's way by preventing congestion and dangerous traffic situations right where they need to cross the street.

However, there is talk about removing these signs, which poses an immediate threat to the safety of our children!  As a parent in this community, I am all too familiar with the chaos that ensues during pick-up times! Parents eager to collect their children often park right at the crosswalks, creating blind spots and congestion that is perilous for our children.

There are indeed other parking options available that are  safer for everyone involved. These alternative areas can accommodate the vehicles without endangering our children. By keeping the current no parking signs in place, we can ensure that pick-up times remain safe and orderly, minimizing risks and maximizing the safety of our students.

Statistics show that pedestrian incidents around schools decrease significantly when measures like no parking signs and proper traffic management are maintained. Let’s keep these measures strong in our community as well. Let us not wait until an unfortunate accident occurs to take action.
