Keep Dublin City Schools

Keep Dublin City Schools
The Issue
My name is Miyona Wells, and I am a student at Dublin City High School, a place that has shaped my education and future. Unfortunately, our school system is under threat from the county’s consolidation plans, a move that would dismantle opportunities, erase traditions, and harm students like me.
Dublin City Schools provides essential programs, including academic support, athletics, healthcare, and food security. These programs feed athletes before games, ensure students have meals during storms, offer personalized instruction for those in need, and ensure a bright future for all students in their way. Consolidation would strip away these supports, leaving families vulnerable and eroding our strong student community.
Contrary to claims of cost savings, school consolidation would likely increase expenses. Studies show that consolidations often result in higher transportation costs and reduced educational outcomes. In our case, rebranding Dublin City Schools, and removing our Leprechaun mascot and green and gold identity would cost significantly more money than it saves, undermining the culture and legacy that unite us. Furthermore, it would affect many educations as countless programs offered here would be terminated because none are held at any Laurens County schools.
Our schools are the heart of this community. I urge county officials to prioritize educational quality and the needs of students over short-term financial assumptions.
Please join us in standing against this plan. Sign the petition to protect Dublin City Schools and preserve the opportunities and traditions that matter to so many.
