Denmark High is prioritizing a slip of PAPER over the education of HUNDREDS of students daily. We can change this.

At Denmark High School, the large student population exceeds 2000. Due to this, traffic getting in to the school building is astronomical. Every morning hundreds students are tardy, even though they got to school at 8:23. Most often, these students COULD HAVE made it to class a minute or two late, missing minimal class time. However, the doors are slammed and locked shut by administrators, with no chance of getting in and making it to class. Due to this, student drivers have to walk around to the main entrance, but by that time, the line has already started to exceed outside the school building, leaving no chance to get to class somewhat on time. Some wait outside for more forgiving teachers to let them in before they are are forced to stand in a line filling the front entrance and exceeding far outside the building, as they have to check in manually with one of two attendance staff/assistant. This could take anywhere from 10 to 35 minutes of valuable class time wasted. They tell us "leave five to ten minutes earlier," but if this huge population of students all adhered, the traffic getting into the student lot would still be awful. Every morning dozens of students make a mad dash to make it before the doors are closed in their faces, even running in front of moving cars just to try and make it. This needs to change. Denmark High School's student body is missing valuable class time just to be checked in. Couldn't our teachers just mark us tardy themselves if we're merely a minute or two late? I understand shutting the gym doors for safety reasons, but I believe we should be able to go in through the main entrance without checking in up until 8:30. This would make it possible for the majority of the line to be diminished and many students could make it to school with only 5 minutes lost, compared to the 35 they could've spent waiting. At that point, check-ins would be required, but a majority of the line would be able to make it to class with only a few minutes lost, rather than 20. I propose that the gym doors stay open until 8:25, and that students can use the main entrance without checking in until 8:30. Denmark High School seems to be prioritizing the little slip of paper we receive, over the education of hundreds of students daily.
