Keep Dominion Trail Elementary School Together

The Issue

LCPS is proposing two rezoning plans – R11 and R17 – that prioritize reuniting the still growing Lansdowne community at one school while significantly disrupting Ashburn Village families by increasing our school split from three to four elementary schools. Both plans specifically target moving two Dominion Trail neighborhoods - DN05.03 and DN17.2 - out of Dominion Trail and into Steuart Weller beginning next school year (2026-2027).

More importantly, our neighborhoods fall within the walking zone for Farmwell Station Middle School (FSMS), which should be a key consideration - especially since Steuart Weller does not feed into FSMS. This change would pull children from their current school cluster at DTES, place them in a different cluster for elementary school, and then reassign them again back to their community’s correct cluster afterward. It’s a disruptive shift with long-term implications for our students’ continuity and moving forward with either proposal will sever the sense of belonging the children have developed, thus negatively impacting their mental health and well-being.
