Keep Dogwood Charter School Open

The Issue

Dogwood Charter School is a K-8 (and expanding) public charter school that services students in the Greater Pittsburgh Area including Pittsburgh Public, Bethel Park, Whitehall, Baldwin, USC, Peters, Canon Mac, Ringgold, and many other surrounding districts. They aim to promote an alternative means of education so that every child can truly be included and can explore the world around them.  "A liberal education is the natural birthright of every child," Charlotte Mason.

The municipality notified the school in September that they were out of compliance with zoning and building codes. The school and zoning committee have since been working to resolve these issues, but have not been able to.  As such, as of October 14, 2024, the school was forced to shut it's doors temporarily, negatively effecting students and forcing many local parents to be out of work, until they can find alternative childcare.

In an economy where many are already struggling, we petition Bethel Park Zoning Officials and DCS Board Members to resolve this issue swiftly to avoid discontinuance of our children's education.

We petition the Bethel park Zoning Board to grant a continuance where our children may remain in school while this issue is being discussed and resolved.

We petition Bethel Park Zoning board to work swiftly with the Dogwood Charter School Board to resolve this issue so that our local children can receive the education they are entitled to.

We petition the district to grant us access to a means of alternative education location where our school may gather, such as a local public park or the recreation center, in the interim.

Every child deserves an education!  Please help us by signing and writing letters of support if you believe in educational choice!
