The Issue

STOP PRESS! Horsham District Council will soon vote on this planning application.  Read to the end to find out how to write to your councillor and to link to the many concerns and issues raised during the consultation process.

We need your help to oppose a planning application for 800 houses at Horsham Golf and Fitness. The proposed planning application (Ref: DC/23/1178) would see valuable green space and amenities on the iconic, Denne Hill, destroyed. ONCE IT’S GONE, IT’S GONE!

The developer plans to concrete over acres of countryside, destroying the natural green buffer between Southwater and Horsham and leaving the area vulnerable to future housing developments.

We cannot allow such irreversible damage to be inflicted upon our local community and ecosystems. The proposal directly affects the environment, strains essential services, destroys a thriving golf course, compromises pedestrian, cyclist and traffic safety, and results in the loss of valuable amenities.

  • Loss of 18-hole golf course which provides recreational opportunities for residents young and old.
  • Schools are struggling to meet demand and children are being sent out of area.
  • NHS services including hospitals, GPs and pharmacies are under unsustainable pressure. Dentists are not taking on NHS patients.
  • Destruction of green space and ancient woodlands, disrupting wildlife, including rare and vulnerable species such as bats and great crested newts.
  • Safety fears for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike.
  • Inevitable surge in traffic volume on already congested roads and the Hop Oast roundabout.
  • Has not substantiated claims of water neutrality and adequate flood risk management within the water-stressed catchment of the River Arun.
  • Countryside location, outside the built up area, creating infill in the green space between Southwater and Horsham.
  • Affects the setting of listed buildings and parklands.

These are all valid reasons why this development should not go ahead. Sign this petition today, write to your Councillor and let your voice be heard!

What else can you do to object?  Write to your Councillor.

Now is the time to reach out and write to Councillors ahead of the planning application going to the Planning Committee for a decision.  We don’t know when this will be but the earliest possible date is March 6th.

To make this easy we have updated the Keep-Denne-Hill-Green website with details of how to contact your Councillors and some ideas of what you could say, including quotes from some of the experts who have been consulted, raising  concerns, objections and gaps in information.

Let’s send a clear message to Horsham District Council that this application should be rejected.

Thank you for your support.
