The Issue

"A New Unique opportunity",

Headlined a broadcast on WPSD Local 6, but the reality is that it will bring agricultural ruin&Local population plague. In the article/broadcast it states a Large scale Data Center is to be built in Paducah,Kentucky. A Data Center is a facility that houses computing equipment to run Ai. To keep this technology in high tune; it must maintain it's unquenchable thirst for our water supply, and fossil fuels. In turn polluting our air, drinking water,as well as raising our electric bills to support the consumption of energy these Large scale data centers which averages 70,000-115,000 megawatts daily. Tacking onto the already unaffordable lifestyle we are having to lead now. Struggling to feed our families and keeping them healthy just for greedy corporations to poison 30 million gallons of our drinking water with electrical waste and pump out air pollution made up of nitrogen dioxide and diesel exhaust. Oh and to make matters worse Kentuckians will be forced to pay a 1% tax into this insatiable technology. But to make the equation more clear Kentucky must dedicate 46 million gallons of water a day to our agriculture, and we need our groundwater to help our rivers to transport our trade goods of natural resources. Kentucky residents average 4.3 billion gallons a day for personal use. We need that water to keep our sanitation intact for illness prevention. The time for action is now! Kentuckians cannot suffer for a cash out that will impact our present and future.

I appreciate the creator of this petition for using their voice and gathering support from our community to ensure others are heard as well. As this project has developed, I’ve taken the time to learn more about it. Unfortunately, the decision to bring this to our community was made at the federal level and is not something I voted on as a City Commissioner. That said, it remains my responsibility to represent our community and make sure your voices are heard throughout this process. I also want to share, based on the information available to me, that this facility is expected to have its own energy source and not place additional demand on our current electric system.
