The Issue

Since moving to Troup County, I've cherished the tranquility and natural beauty that defines our home. It is a place where families can turn off the noise of the modern world and enjoy a slower-paced, more peaceful lifestyle. It worries me deeply that this way of life is under threat. The planned developments of data centers and cryptomine facilities in our county could irreversibly harm the very essence of what makes Troup County special.

These developments have implications that extend far beyond the initial noise and construction. They pose serious threats to our water and power resources. Data centers require enormous amounts of water for cooling systems. They drain local water supplies, leaving less for our families, farmers, and wildlife. The infrastructure needed to power them results in loss of land, homes, and property value. Cryptomining facilities are notorious for consuming vast quantities of electricity, putting a strain on the local power grid, which could lead to higher bills for everyone or even power shortages.

Moreover, these infrastructures damage our environment and air quality. The numerous diesel generators used to power a data center during an outage have to be tested every week, resulting in emissions that harm our health.

Imagine seeing our lush landscapes replaced with industrial complexes. Homes would lose value because no one wants to live next to noisy, polluting facilities. This intrusion into our community will alter the sense of safety and serenity we hold dear.

It's not too late for us to take a stand. We can push back against developments that threaten the well-being and future of Troup County. By signing this petition, you help express opposition to these plans and support the protection of our resources, health, and property values. Your signature can propel local and state officials, as well as potential developers, to reconsider their plans. Let’s come together as a community and speak out for Troup County’s preservation.

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE (unless you specifically want to support Change.org). The money does not go to our group.
