Keep Commercial Zoning on Nellis & Craig in Las Vegas for Future Grocery Store

Keep Commercial Zoning on Nellis & Craig in Las Vegas for Future Grocery Store
The Issue
The residents of properties near Nellis & Craig live in a food desert. The nearest grocery store in any direction is about 4-5 miles away.
Directly across the street from the property in question are newly built homes (Cliffs at Dover) that house over 500 homeowners. Although Walmart attempted to survive in this location prior to these homes being built, it did not last. Now, some developers are trying to rezone this property to an industrial (Design Manufacturing) area so that they can move in a warehouse.
Here are a few issues with this rezoning proposition:
1) This would keep a commercial retailer such as a grocery store from moving in.
2) This could leave the door open for a future manufacturing company (with smoke and smells) to move in.
3) This would increase truck traffic on Craig, thereby heightening the risk of related accidents, damaging the roads, and increasing the traffic on an already busy street.
We desperately need a business to move into this property that will benefit the community surrounding it, and an industrial complex simply will not be beneficial.
Let’s bring these and any additional concerns to our county commissioner so that something can be done in favor of the community. Let’s make sure our voices are heard in something that could make or break the future of this neighborhood. Please consider signing this petition so that we may begin to make our politicians aware of the dire needs of this community when it comes to access to food and so that we may fight for something better to come our way.
