Continued Career Exploration Support for Student

Continued Career Exploration Support for Student
Why this petition matters
The Career Co-ordinators of SD61 secondary schools have been informed that the school board has created a budget for the 2022/2023 school year recommending that our jobs be cut. It is not only a blow to us personally, but to the students and staff we serve.
We are available daily for the entire school population (Grades 9 – 12) for one to one career support. Our role includes promoting, recruiting, registering and transitioning students whether they wish to work, volunteer, or help guide them through their post-secondary applications, troubleshooting, and navigating the student transcript service. We co-ordinate events at our schools, like the BC Post Secondary Fair and host events like the Indigenous Career Fair and Dream it Be it Career Support for Girls. In addition, we support counsellors with academic counselling and post secondary research. We support students by accompanying them to full day career explorations in careers such as fashion design, aviation, graphic design, and women in trades. We enrich the Career Life Education classes and our schools by booking a wide range of lunchtime, evening, and class speakers.
Please sign your name to tell the school board that this is not ok, and that we are valued members of our school community.
