Keep Bruce Morris' Footprints on the Marshall Basketball Court

The Issue

Marshall University recently unveiled their brand new basketball court, but it is missing an important piece of history -- the green footprints of former player, Bruce Morris.

On February 7, 1985, Bruce scored the longest college basketball shot in history at 89 feet, 10 inches. It was known as the "The Shot Herd Round the World" and was in the Guinness Book of World Records. This shot inspired the competition "Be Like Bruce" that still happens in the Cam Henderson Center today. We believe the competition will be more exciting and meaningful if all participants can stand on the footprints exactly where the shot happened.

This shot sent fans into an uproar and is still talked about decades later. The footprints remind many veteran fans how exciting Marshall basketball can be, and they remind all fans that anything is possible.

In addition to the footprints being added to the court, we also ask that a video montage of the record-breaking shot be played at the stadium. This video will inform new fans and visitors about the history of the footprints, and allow diehard Marshall fans relive one of their favorite memories in the Cam.

Upgrades and modernization are unavoidable, however, the Marshall Athletic Department should avoid wiping away history. Please sign this petition today to help keep Marshall history alive and keep Bruce Morris' footprints on the court.

Video of the record-breaking shot "HERD" around the world.
