Transport for NSW has blocked the public town wharf, preventing vehicular access to the wharf and the vessels that berth there. Larger vessels rely on this wharf to load and unload passengers, refuel, restock and convey essential safety equipment. This has caused major practical and safety challenges for local businesses, commercial operators, vessel owners and emergency water services including marine rescue and water police.

Commercial operators in Batemans Bay have lost their ability to transfer goods and fuel between vehicle and vessel. The only local alternative, the Batemans Bay Marina, is unsuitable for many vessels due to size restrictions, water depth requirements and tidal limitations. Transport for NSW has offered no communication regarding the wharf closure and has not provided any suitable alternatives for larger vessels.

We therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to prioritise the restoration of the town wharf, and commit to a maintenance schedule to prevent similar issues arising in the future.
