Since its establishment in 1952, Blacksburg High School has been the primary institution responsible for educating secondary school students in Blacksburg, Virginia. Blacksburg High School's name is arguably most important to its identity as a top performing high school on both academic and athletic levels. In fact, thousands of us consider the high school a crucial element of our community - that is to say, Blacksburg. Others may even argue that Bruin, the student body's nickname and mascot, has become synonymous with Blacksburg. Over the decades, generations of students, faculty, and staff have come together as one, cohesive body at Blacksburg High. This unity will only be furthered and strengthened in generations to come. So the question is: why change its name now?
