***LABOUR AND GREEN COALITION AGREES TO MOVE FORWARD ON CHARGING FOR COPPICE***

Last night, 9th July 2024, whilst most were into watching Spain beat France in the euros - or alternatively trying to avoid football, your town councillors were in a meeting trying to stop the madness of charging for coppice car park.

In a RECORDED VOTE , a coalition of all Labour and Green councillors, plus the one who is currently suspended from the greens for racism, ALL voted to accept their own recommendations to have further discussions and firm up costings with AVBC for managing Coppice Car Park and apply to AVBC for a chargeable Car Parking Order for The Coppice, PLUS St Johns and Gibfield lane. 

BELPER INDEPENDENTS VOTED AGAINST.

The town council will have to waste money on the parking order, run a public consultation and ultimately pay Amber Valley to enforce parking.

Their reasons? They don't like cars and bizarrely think that bringing in charges will make people walk. They have even questioned whether we should be encouraging people to go shopping! It's an award winning high street for goodness sake!!!! 

Bringing in charging has never got this close and would be disastrous for our town. Our shops rely on a good mix of parking; our shop workers need somewhere to park and we don't want to see all the parking spilling onto local streets
