The Issue

In a city bustling with opportunity and the drive for success, I recently embarked on a new chapter in my life by starting a management position while simultaneously striving to complete my education in San Francisco. One crucial enabler of this journey has been BART’s Blue Line, a lifeline that has allowed me to navigate the city efficiently without the prohibitive costs that accompany driving and parking in San Francisco, which could easily run into hundreds of dollars per week.

However, the importance of keeping BART’s Blue Line operational extends far beyond just my personal story. My wife, who also rides BART to reach her job, benefits from the low-income fare program, which effectively halved her commuting costs. The Blue Line is pivotal for so many residents who rely on this affordable and efficient public transit option to connect them to work, education, and other essential services. Without it, congestion on already crowded freeways and streets would skyrocket, and countless individuals would face financial hardships due to increased transportation costs.

The Bay Area is known for its diversity and opportunities, but these cannot be fully realized if the infrastructure does not support those who need it most. Keeping BART’s Blue Line open is not just a convenience; it is a necessity for maintaining economic equity and environmental sustainability in our beloved city.

We urge the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and local government officials to recognize the critical role BART’s Blue Line plays in broader community well-being. By choosing to maintain its operations, we invest in not only our city’s transit system but the way of life for thousands who depend on it.

Sign this petition to ensure that BART’s Blue Line remains a steadfast resource in our community, supporting both individuals and the larger societal good in San Francisco. Together, we can advocate for a more inclusive and sustainable city.
