Obesity is disease, and for those that are morbidly obese diet and exercise alone are not sufficient treatments. Bariatric surgeries not only help people to lose weight that couldn't lose it other ways, but it also cures Type II diabetes, reduces comorbidities, improves quality of life, and saves money on health care costs! By stopping coverage of bariatric surgery in the State Health Benefit Plan, the state of Georgia will actually spend more money on health care costs, costing taxpayers money we don't have! Insurance companies shouldn't get to pick and choose which diseases they will treat!
