The Pickleball saga got more confusing today. The mayor and city commissioners declared there was no place to put the Pickleball and extra tennis courts beside Founders Park South, the pocket park between two developments: a high-rise condo and a rental apartment community.
But just a few blocks away, as I discovered in my travels today, is a larger city park known as Veterans Park, a piece of which is shown today. It has a large shaded playground with an open field in front of it, a soccer goal, and a huge flat field to the side, and a walking path.
There is clearly enough room at Veterans Park for a slew of Pickleball and Tennis Courts and lots of green grass for an informal playing field left over. Moreover, it has sufficient parking, which Founders Park South lacks. Word has it that neighboring communities expressed interest in having those facilities. But it was squashed. Why?
Is there something not quite kosher going on?
Please continue to spread the word and support our effort to save Founders Park South. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn today, and see why we're so passionate about our passive park.
