Keep Aventura's Founders Park South/Community Garden Park As Is
The Issue
The City of Aventura wants to change Founders Park South aka Community Garden Park, a unique oasis in our community where people can now relax and walk among shade trees or along the waterfront-- into a night-lit Pickleball and Tennis Center, with two tennis and six Pickleball Courts. This quiet and restful spot should remain in its present form, a green respite in an increasingly urbanized community.
A Pickleball and Tennis Center will bring undesirable elements and changes to the surrounding community. It will increase traffic on 190th St and cause additional blockage and wait times for entry to the Aventura Marina and Hidden Bay Condominiums. Instead of peaceful rolling hills dotted with mature shade trees, gardens, and waterfront, 8-to-10-foot fencing for the courts will mar the view from Aventura Marina, Hidden Bay as well as Echo Aventura, and the Camden apartments.
Community Pickleball courts are a great idea, but not at the expense of a much loved, enjoyed and needed serene pocket park with a water view. Moving the garden boxes to the waterfront will block the view.
The City of Aventura is about to send plans out for bid to change the use of the Community Garden Park from a passive to an active athletic center. This is a major mistake. If Pickleball Courts are needed, they must be located elsewhere where our much-appreciated and rare green space is not paved over and destroyed. We need our serene pocket park to remain as is.
