Keep Auburn High School students safe! Keep Amos the weapons dog

The Issue

In the bustling hallways of Auburn High School, a silent guardian walks among us. With unwavering loyalty and an unmatched sense of duty, Amos the weapons dog stands as a beacon of protection and reassurance. In the face of rising school shootings and high population in Auburn High, this dog is paramount to these children's safety.

This exceptional animal is more than just a tool of detection; he embodies a promise. A promise to shield our children from harm, to maintain an environment conducive to learning, and to uphold the sanctity of education. With an acute sense of smell, far surpassing our own, this diligent canine is capable of detecting concealed weapons which threaten the wellbeing of students nationwide.

But his impact extends far beyond his exceptional abilities. In the presence of a weapons dog, tensions dissipate, replaced by a collective understanding that our safety is paramount. This loyal companion forges an unspoken bond with our students, serving as trusted allies who foster trust, and most importantly: safety.

In a world where the very notion of school should be synonymous with safety, the integration of weapons dogs stands as a beacon of hope. They remind us that we can take proactive measures to fortify our schools and ensure that every student, every teacher, and every staff member can thrive without the shadow of fear.

Auburn City Schools preaches holding the lives and livelihood of its students at the highest priority, but seek to take away the very thing that keeps them secure. They must set the example and show the state and the nation that they do care about us and they will not back down in the face of violence.

However, Auburn High School plans to rid its students of this necessity.

Students know all too well of the fear of showing up to school with the possibility of having their school shot up looming over their shoulder. With Amos and handler Michael Handley absent from our hallways, we lose the sense of protection that we took for granted.

Bring him back.
