The Issue

Learning is a fundamental right and a vital tool for personal and community development, especially for immigrants like ourselves striving to build a new life in the United States. At the heart of our journey has been AMHR's Cultural Development and Wellness Center in Aurora, where we have found the guidance and encouragement necessary to assimilate, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to society.

The center stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for immigrant students, many of whom have achieved marked success after attending the institution. These students, equipped with new skills and growing confidence, not only manage to feed their families but also become active contributors to their communities. This ripple effect of education benefits not only our families but also the broader community by reducing reliance on public benefits and enhancing cultural diversity, which is healthy and enriching for society as a whole.

Despite these positive outcomes, AMHR's Adult Education Program will close its doors June 30 due to funding priorities. This closure will be a significant setback, not just for us but for the entire Aurora community. We cannot afford to lose this essential resource that has been instrumental in helping immigrants like me integrate successfully and steer clear of harmful influences.

We urge Aurora Mental Health & Recovery to recognize the crucial role this center plays and to make a firm commitment to keeping it open. By prioritizing adult education within the center, we not only invest in the personal development of immigrants but also ensure a thriving, diverse community that uplifts everyone.

Join us in this critical mission to maintain the AMHR's Adult Education Program and continue its invaluable work. Sign this petition to show your support and help us safeguard a vital institution for immigrants and the community at large.
