Thanks to the amazing and heroic BLM movement in our nation today, it is the ideal time to remove the Christopher Columbus statue on Passaic Ave. in Kearny. We should no longer celebrate or recognize this murderous colonizer who brought slaughter, disease, and enslavement to my native people. The last person that our town should be honoring with a statue is this malicious, greedy man who lied and exploited our native people for his own benefit. In fact, I think we should tear that awful statue down and put one up to honor all the educators who live and work in Kearny. They’ve been working so hard before and during the pandemic and rarely get recognized despite giving their all to and for the children of Kearny. 

For those who oppose this initiative, ask yourself how you’d feel if your families were slaughtered and others were honoring that murderer with a statue, parade, and holiday.
