Over the past few weeks, many colleges around the United States including Kean University have moved to online classes. While this is the safest decision for students and staff members, many of the seniors including myself, are fearful that our graduation will be cancelled.

Although it is only March, some universities have already cancelled their graduation events. Rutgers University, TCNJ, and Fairleigh Dickinson University are just a few institutions that have called off their graduation ceremonies. Some schools such as Rider and Rowan have postponed theirs to a later date.

Kean University is proposing a virtual graduate commencement for the class of 2020 due to COVID-19. This is pointless and a waste of time. We did not work hard for 4+ years to graduate on google hangouts!

This petition isn't meant to disregard the health and safety of others, those two things are the most important and should not be jepordized. Rather, it is to acknowledge this is a special time not only for the seniors, but for friends and family as well. This is our last time to be together as we embark on our next journey.

My fellow seniors and I already lost our last two months in college, please don't take this honor away from us.

Please sign this petition in hopes that Kean will reconsider switching to a postponed graduation rather than a virtual one.
