KBP and Philippine Radio Stations: We Want More Original Filipino Music!

The Issue

Based on WIPO data, the contribution of copyright to the Philippine GDP is only at 4.6% and yet the Philippines leads ALL countries internationally in terms of contribution of creative economy employment - this just goes to show how Filipinos are creative, but have yet to find the means to earn from their artworks. A good example of this is the Filipino music industry.

Current statistics show that only 3 out of 10 songs heard on the radio today are Filipino. However, out of the 3 songs, 2 are remakes, hence only 1 song is original.

Increasing the airtime for Original Filipino music would improve the demand for Filipino music, and eventually help the Filipino music industry.

If you're Filipino and you find this cause worthy, please support and share with everyone you know!
