Vote NO on the anti-trans 'Vulnerable Child Protection Act'

Vote NO on the anti-trans 'Vulnerable Child Protection Act'
The Issue
Alabama's proposed 'Vulnerable Child Protection Act' (bills HB1/SB10 and HB391) is anything but. These transphobic bills aim to outlaw gender affirming healthcare for minors (anyone under 18) in the state of Alabama, as well as punish any doctor who performs such healthcare with fines or jail time. Another goal of this act is to legally obligate teachers to out trans youth's identity to their families.
If passed, these bills will have dangerous consequences. Alabama is already a hostile place for LGBTQ people, especially for transgender and gender non conforming people. The safety of transgender youth in Alabama will only be further compromised if these bills pass. Transgender students will likely face homelessness, physical attacks from family and peers, and bullying if they are outed in an unsafe location. If denied access to gender affirming healthcare, the mental health of transgender youth will decline, and many will attempt or commit suicide.
The sponsor of HB1/SB10 is Republican Senator Shay Shelnutt, who admitted to never having spoken to a transgender youth before (as of March 2,2021). How can he protect those who he has never spoken to?
Please sign and share this petition and get in touch with Alabama legislators to prevent these transphobic bills from being enacted.
