The Issue

KAWS Keep Atlanta Women Safe,

In the wake of the murders of Alyssa Paige and Lauren Bullis, we must face the sad reality  that men are responsible for 80% of all violent crimes, a statistic that underscores a crisis we can no longer ignore. In recent months, the brutal murders of women in Atlanta resonated across the community, revealing just how dire the situation has become. While teenagers, who only commit 14% of crimes, are subjected to curfews for public safety, no such preventative measure exists for men, who pose a far greater threat statistically.

To reclaim safe outdoor spaces like public parks for women, I propose a mandatory 7:00 p.m. curfew for men in these areas. Implementing this curfew can be an effective method to ensure women can safely exercise, walk their dogs, or enjoy Atlanta’s beautiful parks without fear of harassment or violence or death. Furthermore, a dedicated women's-only park with a gate access system and 24/7 security provided by the Atlanta Police Department could offer an immediate safe haven.

Male crimes against women should be treated with the utmost seriousness, reclassified as hate crimes under "KAWS Law," specifically tailored to protect women in Atlanta. This initiative calls for expanded definitions and stronger penalties to deter perpetrators from targeting women.
Mandatory 3 year sentence no parole for the first offense and mandatory 15 year sentence with no parole for the second offense as many crimes against women are committed by reoffenders.

Furthermore we must get to the root cause of this violence and make health class in Atlanta include consent and respect and reinforce young boys respect for women before they grow up to offend. This violence starts early so we must get to the root cause.

Implementing consent and respect lessons in health classes as early as fifth grade can help future generations of women remain safe and keep men from committing violence.

I, like many women, have been a victim of male violence. I've endured horrific experiences such as being raped, drugged, and chased down the streets of Atlanta, running for my life on multiple occasions. Twice, I had to intervene when witnessing a man gratifying himself in public in Midtown. These are not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing pattern of male violence against women, leaving us with stories that haunt our nightmares.

It's time to change this narrative and make Atlanta a safer place for all women.

Our city must take resolute action to address the male crime epidemic and make women’s safety a priority. I urge the community and decision-makers in Atlanta to support this vital cause, making our neighborhoods safer and instilling peace of mind in all our female residents.

Please sign this petition to implement these changes and make a meaningful step towards a safer Atlanta for women.
