As we all know, we’re in the middle of a pandemic and American Idol usually airs live episodes to finish out the rest of the competition! That being said, as American Idol figures out their different options for the show, I was thinking it would be sufficient and actually kind of enjoyable if the contestants sang from their living rooms via Zoom and ABC aired it live. Jimmy Fallon has been doing shows from his house this way, talking to his guests from their homes and it’s really endearing and has worked really well! Think about it: we could see each of the Top 20 in a new, authentic light without all the makeup and fancy costumes. And I know— those are some of the best parts AND I’d rather have a safe rest of the season than potentially go months without more American Idol content! I just don’t think I can go that long without Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan’s camaraderie.
