Erin Sheffield started this petition to Director of Health Care, Barnes Center at The Arch Kathleen Coughlin and

Syracuse University students engage with university healthcare services more than ever before. Mandatory flu vaccines and frequent COVID-19 testing has students engaging with medical staff multiple times per month. Daily questionnaires lead students to check the patient portal constantly. What used to be a meaningless cold or seasonal allergies now call for a medical appointment.

Yet the existing degree of engagement still is not enough. Though students should schedule an appointment even if facing "seasonal allergies," it's no promise that every student will. Some may fear the potential expenses associated with an appointment. Some may worry of grade detriments because of quarantine. Some--namely the first year students with online classes--may not even know where the Barnes Center is. Both students and health center staff will benefit from maximizing engagement with health care services.

Which is why the Barnes Center at The Arch should give stickers to students at the end of appointments.

Stickers are an incredibly low-cost incentive with surprisingly effective payoff. A roll of 600 animal stickers sells for just $7 online (Hebayy, 2020). Yet the potential impact of stickers is astounding. Patients may enter the Barnes Center anxious about their health, their grades, their finances. But no patient will leave the Barnes Center without some adhesive paper telling them that they are "grape." And isn't that what truly matters?

Stickers could also encourage students to consistently seek mental health services in a time of immense anxiety and frustration. Progress in mental health counseling is slow, arduous, and often exhausting. Seeing tangible results from the efforts often takes more appointments than a person is willing to endure. Stickers, however, are a tangible benefit to gain at the end of every counseling appointment. In this way, stickers would not only cause an immediate boost in happiness; they could aid in one's journey to long-term contentment.

The benefits to both parties are incalculable: fun and easy PR for the Barnes Center, assistance in the transition to adulthood for students, easy implementation for the Barnes Center, increased agency for students. The only thing left to do is buy a roll. Stick it to 2020, Barnes Center at The Arch--give stickers to students.
