Stopping the Stigma that's attached to Mental Health, Bringing Awareness to you!
The Issue
I'm starting the petition to increase the awareness of issues impacting people of all cultures with Mental illness and addiction disorder. I'm choosing to be an Advocacy for Mental Health worldwide. I maybe 1 person but it really only takes 1 person to get the ball rolling. I know a lot of people and Organizations are doing their advocacy, but I'm pushing mine too.
The stigma attached to this daily challenge is so horrible because Mental illness is real. It makes it hard for some people to be opened up about it or seek help for it. Even the "Pill Shaming" is ridiculous. How could anyone make someone feel ashamed of taking meds to help them function? This doesn't help ANYONE. Then we wonder why the suicide numbers are so high. We ask people to be honest with themselves, yet the minute they are, people cry them down, forcing them to hide their sorrows, hurt, abused, anger frustration guilt and all other emotions.
This petition is especially important to me because I am physically disabled with Mental Health Issues associated with trauma from an accident a few years ago. My life change in a flash. From being a wife and a mother with two small kids who was fully independent to being physically disabled in a blink of an eye. Causing severe depression, PTSD, Agrophobia, anxiety and panic attacks on a regular. Hypercusis developed after the accident and the constant pain is so crazy.
I have seen so many people with Mental illness and disabilities before my experience, and watching is so different than when you actually experience it for yourself. It is hard. So I'm advocating for Mental illness and giving back to the Mental Health community. This can be extremely powerful for both families and patients. My advocacy work also helps strengthen my own mental health recovery. To me it is very important to pay attention to your mental health no matter who you are. Even kids go through this as well. It's stability is a very important factor in a person's everyday life.
Over 450 million people worldwide, have some mental illness. Major depression ranks 4th among the top 10 leading causes of disease worldwide. They estimate that by 2029, Mental illness is predicted to become the leading cause of diseases. Women are more likely to have a mental illness than men. 1 million people commit suicide every year and 10 to 20 million attempt it.
So I'm asking you to help me stop the stigma attached to mental health issues by signing this petition. Your signature gives others reasons to either help in this mission or seek help because others are going through the same as them. Might be different situation but the pain is real.
