Course cost support grant to all Solent University students

The Issue

Each year many young people leave their homes to continue their studies and pursue their careers abroad. After studying for three years they are expected to use everything they have learned in their FMPs. Solent University helps its students by funding them but that only applies to the UK students. International students are not eligible for the course support grant.

As both ‘home’ and international students at Solent University are studying under equal conditions (course, fee, guidelines, etc.), it is extremely unfair that not all of the students are eligible for the support grant for their FMPs.

It is wrong to make it more difficult for the international students by not supporting them with the FMP - the biggest project on the course, the opportunity to show what they have learned and get a great project in their portfolio. It is one of the things to help them to get employed after graduating.

Making international students eligible for the course support grant will not only raise the quality of their but also the UK students' FMPs. It will also improve diversity for all students to work together. UK students may show less initiative to work together with international students because they cannot get funding.

It is because of those reasons students and lecturers of the Solent University are asking for equal support to all students and to make the funding more accessible for international students.
