KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION,
How many more people have to die on HWY 254, before the Wichita and surrounded communities see a REAL change. Not just another band-aid slapped on the problem to divert the real issues. What has been set in place is not sufficient for the heavily traveled highway, that connects El Dorado to Wichita, with Benton and Towanda along the way. This highway connects one of our largest school districts, Circle, from its elementary schools on Greenwich, the the schools in Benton, Towanda and all the way to Oil Hill located in El Dorado. That is a lot of students traveling on a highway on any given day. Not to mention the semi trucks and the many people just commuting to and from work on a daily basis.
More & more side road drivers are edging out or rolling stop signs. It's getting worse everyday. Side road drivers think they can get across when 254 traffic is moving 70 + mph. The perception of speed is TERRIBLE. The confusion in the medians is overwhelming. When one person makes a mistake, it causes horrific results. People are distracted and are in a hurry. With the growing communities along this highway, and the increase of traffic over the years, the need to establish better safety features could save lives. EVERYONE MATTERS!!
The Wichita and surrounding communities demand something be done!!
