Allow Buses/RVs back onto the grass at Arrowhead Stadium before season begins!
The Issue
The Kansas City Chiefs are implementing a new rule (supposedly enforced in 2014) that states that ALL vehicles over 25' in length are required to park on Dubliner Circle on the north side of Kauffman Stadium. These vehicles include nearly all tailgate buses, RVs and vehicles with trailers. These vehicles have been allowed to park on the grass surrounding the stadiums for many years, and have become a backdrop for tailgating, gatherings, and nearly all media covering our tailgating on the local, regional and national scenes. Even the promotional video sent out by the KC Chiefs via Twitter before our first home preseason game featured one of these buses parked up close to Arrowhead, which is no longer allowed.
The KC Chiefs said that this decision came from traffic/parking concerns, and from consultation with an outside company. I, as one of these bus owners, explained to the Chiefs that limiting buses and RVs would actually increase traffic, as those passengers would need more vehicles to get there to replace the bus/RV effect. I also explained that these vehicles are ones that arrive early and depart late, and actually do not hinder traffic.
The KC Chiefs have also restricted more parking on the grass since this announcement with rocks, fencing and other blocking methods. There is no doubt that there is less parking now available at Arrowhead than just a season ago, and will get worse if bus and RV owners decide to no longer bring their buses/RVs due to being pushed out of the tailgate experience with other fans, and the associated cost to park, maintain and fuel one of these vehicles.
All the KC Chiefs need to do is allow fans to park these vehicles on the grass, as they have done for many years. I am one of these bus owners, and have invested thousands to support my team and provide my passengers a safe passage to and from the game, a rally point for others, and add to our game day experience. That is now in jeopardy for me, my passengers, my fellow tailgaters and all others that have one of these vehicles!
