Kaiser Permanente recommends exclusive breastfeeding/breast milk for the first six months of a baby’s life and has taken steps to support their patients in achieving this goal. However, they currently offer only one option for the free double electric breast pump that the Affordable Care Act mandates that they provide - and it is TERRIBLE.

Search mom's groups or internet message boards, and you will find little love for the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric Breast Pump. It's weak suction, loud noise, and unnatural suction pattern are among the chief complaints. In many cases this free piece of medical equipment goes completely unused, because patients choose to pay out of pocket for a pump that is more effective, if they have the resources to do so! 

Let's urge Kaiser to either offer a better pump option (many like the Spectra S2, and it is comparable in price), or allow parents to take the money that Kaiser would have spent on the Ameda to purchase a pump of their choosing.
