We would like to formally bring to your attention our dismay at the indiscriminate dumping of garbage in Kafue along the Old Lusaka road behind RDA Quarry.

This has been going on since 2014 and has worsened in the last 7 years. We had written to ZEMA about this dumpsite when it first started and their response was that it was illegal and that ZEMA would meet with Kafue District Council to resolve the matter.

We have also spoken to previous and present  area Member of Parliament at that time who assured us that action to close it down would be taken.

Additionally  in 2015, We wrote to  the Council Secretary Kafue District Council regarding this issue but never received any feedback.

We also discussed this issue in detail with the current Kafue Member of Parliament who had assured us that she would ensure that the dumpsite is Managed in compliance with the Environmental Management Act.

 The current  Council Chairman  has promised to meet us but has since failed to do so.

As We write this Petition, garbage is being dumped almost directly on the main road and a pungent smell , with swarms of flies and  the leaching of hazardous liquids is eminating  from this garbage dump.

The local community consumes water from shallow wells in the vicinity, it is only a matter of time when there will be an outbreak of diseases.

We have also noticed an increase in  dangerous stray dogs and rodents in the area

We are desperately appealing to you to assist us with this matter before irreversible damage is done to the environment and to public health in our community and the residents of Kafue at large.
