Juvenvile Conviction Reform Case: Phillip Miles

The Issue

The goal of this petition is to request the early release of Phillip Miles from prison.  In the case of Phillip Miles, a young man who was convicted of 2 murders at the age of 16 and was charged as an adult; there were several errors that took place in his case and no one challenged it. He was simply shuffled through the system.

There was no mention or consideration for the fact that his best friend had been brutally murdered in the exact same situation within months of this incident. No one fought for Phillip, his legal counsel was inexperienced, there was no trial and Phillip was left with a sentence that didn't accurately reflect the complete nature of why the crime took place.

He has now served 20 years of his sentence, started multiple programs to help inmates improve/evolve, some of which have been running for several years with excellent results. He has become a positive leader and liaison within the prison and continues to demonstrate mental/emotional strength and growth daily.

Simply put, he has shown/proven that he deserves a second chance and 20 years is more than enough time served for someone who was a kid, feeling threatened and making what he thought was a decision to protect himself.

By signing this petition for his early release from prison, you are sending a message that juveniles should not be discarded without there being proper protocols in place and competent representation in place for the person being charged.

Giving someone a 90-year sentence for a crime they committed before the age of 18 sends the message very early in life that they are expendable and have no hope at self-improvement.

Your signature is the first step to challenging the way we handle juvenile offenders in this state and nationally. Please sign today to show your support for Phillip Miles's early release from prison and support for the thousands of others in a similar struggle. #FreePhillipMiles
