The people of Canada have no ways of defending themselves against an attacker without knowledge of self-defense. A concealed weapon (including pepper spray) is illegal and the fact that it could prevent assault of an aggressor is no exception. Furthermore, in the uncommon situation that the victim does know self-defense, the height and weight of the aggressor can still be a significant problem to handle. For young women, members of the LGBTQ+ community and Indigenous people, the fear of kidnapping, rape and murder is not an unlikely scenario; the fact that they can't take any precautions to protect themselves is unjust and cruel.

Additionally, pepper spray is a non-lethal way of self defense, unlike other weapons such as firearms. This tool can prevent many assaults, muggings and kidnappings without doing significant damage to the aggressor. A simple can of pepper spray can be the ultimate difference between life and death. Moreover, since police can carry pepper spray to defend themselves against bodily harm, why can't the people of Canada do the same? Obviously, the people willing to purchase pepper spray must go through some training and follow regulations, but it should be available for everyone, including adolescents! No matter the gender, race or sexuality, the people of Canada deserve protection and piece of mind!
