Landlords have a common practice of requiring previous living-space tenant references in order to fill a lease with a potential new lessee.

this petition will make it so that the act of requiring references cannot be enforced unless the landlord can also provide references from former proprietors or tenants in the sought-after living space.

this will eliminate the one sided nature of the "interview" process which keeps perfectly normal and law abiding citizens from receiving proper and decently maintained housing.

this will also point out any short-comings of the property managers or landlord's behalf, which can then be addressed anonymously and without repercussions from those who are just in the market for a home.
