Have the two muslim holidays(Eid) as a national Holiday in Canada

The Issue

Canada is populated with millions of Muslims as well as a large background of people whom follow many different faiths. Going forward to embrace the unique diversity of each Canadian is what cuts Canada apart from the rest of the globe. Every year the two Muslim holidays known as Eid Ul-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr remain as a huge celebration and near and dear to the hearts of many Muslims within Canada, as well as worldwide.

Why should this matter?

In order for a healthy understanding to occur amongst ourselves we need to interact with one another about our beliefs and the things that bring us joy, therefore in turn allowing a mutual respect for one another in understanding the others beliefs. Just as Christians celebrate Christmas, Diwali is enjoyed by the Sikhs, Hanukkah celebrated by the Jews, and these are just a few to name. Passing the two muslim holidays(Eid) as a national holiday, is the ultimate form of education and liberation as Canadians, and takes us one step closer to achieving unity. To grow stronger and for us to understand one another better as Sisters and Brothers in humanity.

What is Eid?

There are two Eid holidays:
Eid al Fitr - Occurs after Ramadan(the muslim holy month of fasting) it is a celebration with friends and family after the long holy month of fasting, we dress our best, and give gifts to one another. It is a holiday filled with joy and contentment. The poor is greatly considered here, we give charity to the poor and needy in our communities or abroad.
Eid ul Adha - Takes place after Hajj(the islamic pilgrimage). This is a time when muslims give charity in a form of food to those who are poor and to share with neighbours and friends.

Typically Eid is taken as a time to increase in good deeds and remember God as we are taught to everyday. As well as being around friends and family it increases the occasion in love and happiness as well as a lot of fun! Don't just think its for muslims to enjoy alone, people of other faiths are welcome to the celebration! :)

FUN FACT:
Currently, an estimated 3.5 million Muslims are living in North America, and celebrate Eid!

Now you see one of the reasons this is a big deal, there are a lot of us. It is really important that we grow to understand one another in our beliefs and faiths as Canadians, this petition is us taking one step forward to making that happen. Who's with me?
