In Canada, the self-defense laws are confusing and don't allow you to defend yourself in certain situations. You're not allowed to carry "weapons" for defending yourself in a situation that you'd need to do so.

For example, if a woman wanted to purchase "Pepper spray" to protect herself from a potential attacker, she would be subjected to criminal charges because pepper spray is prohibited for Non-Law Enforcement.

If you wish to carry a blade with the intent to defend yourself if the situation does arise you may face an arrest and/or criminal charges.

Collapsible batons are legal to own and to carry, but not to use for defense. (Private investigators & Security Guards are permitted with the right certification)

With the increasing abductions, muggings, trafficking going on the Laws & Regulations need to be revamped to allow the people of Canada to appropriately defend themselves without facing thousands in legal fees to justify their life.

Body Armor for protection is determined by province, this should be regulated on a federal level. It should be available to every Canadian if they chose to acquire one no questions asked.

Stun guns & Tasers are prohibited for civilian use. Although these would be useful they should only be purchasable to Canadians who possess a valid PAL/RPAL (Possession & Acquisition License)

These would be a good start, I decided to keep firearms out of this because of the many different opinions on firearms in general. Although the legal method to acquire firearms is a long lengthy process some people are still uneducated.
