This petition is a call to action regarding the Opiate / Meth / Street Drug crisis.

Currently, wait times to gain a sobriety bed can reach up-to 6 months long in larger areas of Ontario like Toronto for a detox bed. Those who wish to get sober, continue to use while waiting for their turn at a second chance at a new life, and unfortunately we loose loved ones while the wait ensues. However, I am urging all levels of community and government parties to join this cause because of the effects that substance abuse has on people who already have underlying Mental Health dynamics such as CPTSD, PTSD, Panic Disorder...and so on . Most patients that use are using to escape trauma and trying to self medicate because their secrets are too overwhelming to approach Doctors and or Police regarding such things like sexual assaults, abuse, and or neglect.

Personally, I have been watching my own daughter fall further into psychosis brought on by drug use (Meth, Heroin and other chemicals), waiting for her turn at this second chance. The law states that when someone is a danger to themselves or the public, a form 2 will be issued by a family doctor or Justice of the Peace. I have been denied three times by our family Doctor and basically laughed out of the court house trying to gain information on the form to fill out to the Justice of the Peace in Ontario. I never filed that form. I have been told " this isnt how it works" , and she continues to suffer, and wither away. She is beyond paranoid, thinks she can read peoples minds, talks to herself, rips holes in her walls thinking someone is in there, ripped out all the brick under her bathtub thinking someone was hiding under the tub, thinking her boyfriend is actually her brother. I mean does this sound like a mentally healthy person? I can assure you she was never like this before escaping her trauma. Before she started using she exhibited many signs of CPTSD and mild psychosis; which would make sense based on her particular case. Now she is delusional and most likely not far from death.  

Myself and other parents are done waiting for the government to figure something out. They are tired of hearing about the "problem". Well we believe this is a great solution. 

As parents, we should be able to obtain such forms for our children suffering with Psychosis enhanced by addiction. I am not trying to take my daughters freedom away, I am simply trying to save her life. 72 Hours is as much time as anyone needs to clear their mind, get on the proper medications and hopefully join a transitional program. Lets start giving back their dignity!
