Petition to Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed: Reform the Ethiopian Olympic Committee's Leadership

Problem:

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the current state of the Ethiopian Olympic Committee (EOC). For years, this vital institution, which represents the hopes and dreams of our athletes on the global stage, has been plagued by:

1. Corruption and Nepotism: The committee has been riddled with corrupt practices and favoritism, resulting in decisions that undermine the best interests of our athletes and nation.
  
2. Lack of Leadership Quality: The current leadership has failed to demonstrate the vision and management skills necessary to uplift Ethiopian sports, contributing to disappointing performances, especially at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics
  
3. Lack of Transparency and Accountability: The EOC has not undergone an audit since April 1, 2017, raising serious concerns about the mismanagement and potential misuse of resources.
  
4. Fake Elections: The committee’s election processes have been marred by fraud, leading to the selection of unqualified leaders who do not genuinely represent Ethiopian sports.

Our Request:

To address these issues, we respectfully call upon Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed to take immediate action to reform the Ethiopian Olympic Committee by:

1. Changing the Leadership: Replace the current president and board members with individuals of integrity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to Ethiopian sports.

2. Conducting a Comprehensive Audit:  Initiate a full financial, leadership, and human resources audit of the EOC, focusing on activities since 2017, including the Tokyo and Paris Olympics

3. Investigating Corruption Allegations: Launch an independent investigation into the corruption, nepotism, and lack of transparency within the committee. Hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

4. Ensuring Free and Fair Elections: Overhaul the election process to guarantee transparency, fairness, and inclusivity. Elect new leaders who can restore the EOC’s credibility and drive Ethiopian sports to success.

Why This Matters:

The Ethiopian Olympic Committee is a symbol of national pride, representing the dedication and talent of our athletes on the world stage. Without immediate reform, we risk further diminishing our country’s sporting legacy and the morale of our athletes.
